Updated: Va. Unemployment Commission Found

UPDATED June 17 — Antonio Merrick was found safe, Prince William police said. The agency did not say where Merrick was found or provide any details about what led to his disappearance.

UPDATE 11:25 a.m.

A friend of Antonio Merrick says he’s worried about his well being.

Scott Gillis says he’s a friend of Merrick, and that the missing endangered adult could have driven himself to a VA medical center in Washington, D.C. for physcological treatment. Gillis says Merrick had checked himself into a hospital for physcological treatment at least one other time in the past four years.

Gillis, who says he’s worked as a nurse inside VA medical facility prior to meeting Merrick, described Merrick as a good friend.

“If he had the means to help you he always would,” said Gillis, who added Merrick recently talked him through a difficult time in his life.

Police will not confirm whether they are looking into Merrick’s physiological state.

“He is endangered which means he has met the requirements to be listed as such. Any discussion of his past mental or medical history could violate HIPAA,” stated Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok in an email.
