Want a Dog Park in Manassas Park? Go Vote

MANASSAS PARK, Va. — There is $100,000 up for grabs, and that money could help some area dogs have a new place to play.

Manassas Park’s Dog Park Committee is participating in the Petsafe “bark for your park” contest where one city will be awarded the full amount, and four other finalist cities will win $25,000.

The city now ranks in the top 10 in popularity in the contest. First-round voting ends June 7, and the finalists will move on the a next round a voting that begins June 13. Voters can go online and cast their ballots twice per day, once on the Petsafe website and again on on the organization’s Facebook page.

Manassas Park Parks and Recreation Department’s Jennifer Deuterman says the city currently does not have a permanent dog park, but does have a designated area where dogs can play behind the Manassas Park Community Center. The city’s Dog Park Committee is working to find a site for such a park.

A handful of sites have been identified in Manassas Park where a dog park could be built, though the names or locations those sites were not provided to Potomac Local News.

The committee will act as a liaison between the parks department and dog park users, and will also oversee fundraising for the project, said Deuterman.
