Chick-fil-A Seeks Drive Through for new Lake Ridge Location

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — Another restaurant is coming to the growing Prince William Parkway corridor.

The Prince William County Planning Commission will decide if they will allow a Chick-fil-A restaurant to have a drive-through at a planned location on the corner of Prince William Parkway and Old Bridge Road. The new restaurant will sit in front of the Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center, when constructed.

The Planning Commission will take up the mater at their 7 p.m. meeting on Wednesday at the county’s Government Center not far from where the proposed restaurant would be located.

The county’s report describes concerns about the drive through, and namely how many cars could fill its parking and create potential traffic jams on surrounding streets. Chick-fil-A needs the Commission to issue a special use permit if they are to have a drive-through, as one is not permitted under the current zoning rules.

County documents state the area where the one-story restaurant would sit should be reserved for buildings three to five stories tall, and that the restaurant does not fit with a vision of a mixed-use, walkable neighborhood.

But the Prince William County zoning staff that reviewed Chick-fil-A’s likes the proposal and recommended its. They also noted some of its strengths, especially proffer monies that would be used to improve Old Bridge Road and Prince William Parkway that will make it easier for drivers to get in and out of the restaurant’s parking lot.

Several restaurants have sprung up along this corridor of Prince William Parkway. A popular Chipotle opened just last year.

A Chick-fil-A restaurant on Prince William Parkway, east of this location and next to Interstate 95 in Woodbridge, is regularly busy and often asks for police assistance to direct traffic in its drive through on weekends.

Another Chick-fil-A restaurant will soon be built off Va. 234 near Dumfries, in addition to the one proposed next to the Chinn Center.
