A found lottery ticket netted $250,000 for a Manassas man.
According to the Virginia Lottery, Scott Murillo bought the Mega Millions ticket at an Exxon gas station in October and forgot about it. Late last month, Murillo was cleaning out some old papers when he found the ticket and then decided to check the numbers.
He matched the first five numbers.
Here’s more from the Virginia Lottery:
The winning numbers for that drawing were 6-15-19-23-40 and Mega Ball 5.
Mr. Murilllo, who works as a carpenter, said he hopes to use his winnings to buy a house.
A few weeks after the drawing in which Mr. Murillo won this prize, the Mega Millions game underwent some changes.
The prize for matching the first five numbers in Mega Millions is now $1 million, and the odds of hitting are steeper. Since his winning ticket was for the October 8 drawing, before the changes, he received the $250,000 prize.
The Mega Millions winning numbers are drawn every Friday night at 11 p.m. Last year, the Virginia Lottery generated $486.5 million for public schools in the state.
