Clapper Leaves Prince William Chamber

Updated 1 p.m.

Rob Clapper was praised this morning by Prince William Chamber of Commerce Chairman Bill White for his service to the organization.

Clapper will move on to work in veterans issues, but Chamber officials did not say which company the former Chamber president will be working for.

Here’s White’s comments from a Chamber press release:

“Rob has decided to leave us in pursuit of new opportunities aimed at supporting his passion for veterans and veteran’s issues, but he has brought an outstanding team together and we’re on the right track. We look forward to staying the course for even greater success for our community”

9 a.m.

Rob Clapper is no longer with the Prince William Chamber of Commerce.

Clapper, who served as the President and CEO of the organization since 2010, left on Tuesday. Chief Operating Officer Debbie Jones will be the Interim President for the next six months as the non-profit searches for a replacement for Clapper.

More details on Clapper’s departure are expected in a press release today. In recent years he was very vocal about the need for the Bi-County Parkway and luring large businesses to become Chamber members.

Jones said she plans to speak to Chamber members to see what improvements need to be made within the Chamber, which could herald a restructuring of the businesses organization.

“My plan is to go back out to Chamber members to see where we want to go, and then use that as a guide to the future of the Prince William Chamber,” said Jones.

Clapper received $144,484 in salary in 2011, according to the organization’s tax filings.
