Snow on the Forecast, Anti-Icing Begins on I-95

This morning VDOT began anti-icing on I-95 in preparation for potential snowfall in the forecast for tomorrow.

The forecast calls for snow in the early morning tomorrow, and is expected to continue throughout the day in the Fredericksburg area.

Drivers should be alert, as the anti-icing vehicles will be moving slowly as they spray the road surface with an anti-icing solution.

More information from a VDOT release:

Trucks are equipped with sprayers to cover the road surface with an anti-icing solution. The salt solution or brine will prevent ice from bonding to the pavement during inclement weather. Motorists are encouraged not to pass the trucks during the anti-icing operation.

Based on the current forecast, crews will mobilize shortly after midnight in the Fredericksburg region to be prepared to treat and plow when the snow begins to fall during the early morning hours on Saturday, February 8 and continue throughout the day.

Crews in Westmoreland and King George counties will mobilize at 6 a.m. VDOT will continue to monitor the forecast and mobilize crews in the southern portion of the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula as needed.
