Officer Assaulted While Responding to Call at Wegmans

A woman faces charges after a police officer was struck in the face at a Wegmans grocery store in Woodbridge.

More in an unedited press release:

Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On February 2nd at 5:07PM, officers responded to the Wegman’s located at 14801 Dining Way in Woodbridge (22191) for the report of a person trespassing on the premises. Officers arrived and located the person, later identified as the accused, inside the store. During the encounter, the accused provided officers with false information regarding her identification. Officers were eventually able to identify the accused as Evern SHARPE.

Officer’s handcuffed the accused, at which point, she became aggressive toward them. The accused lunged towards and kicked an officer attempting to search her belongings. When officers attempted to escort the accused from the building, an unidentified man approached the officers from behind in an aggressive manner and attempted to separate the accused from officers. This person was later identified as an acquaintance of the accused, Abdul CONTEH. When CONTEH made contact with officers a struggle ensued.

At one point, CONTEH struck an officer in the face. After the struggle, CONTEH was eventually detained and subsequently escorted from the store, along with SHARPE, without further incident. No injuries were reported.
