Car Care Clinic to Teach Women Basic Maintenance

013014 johnsonAn upcoming car care clinic in Woodbridge is designed to make women feel more empowered when it comes to caring for their cars.

The clinic will be held at HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire on U.S. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 1.

The clinic will be led by Lori Johnson, an technician certified by the Nationals Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, or ASE. She is also the owner of “Ladies, Start Your Engines,” a business that works with independent automotive shops like HomeTowne to teach light automotive maintenance classes to women.

More in a press release:

“Everyday there are women who struggle with what to do with their vehicle when something goes wrong,” explains ST Billingsley, manager of HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire. “We are happy to empower women by helping them learn more about car care in a class that is designed just for them.”

Attendees will have a day of car care education, fun, and fellowship. Johnson is also a member of the American Business Women’s Association and has seven years experience working at a Honda dealership as a service manager. Her mission is to break down all the things that many people find complicated and welcomes those with no prior car care experience or knowledge to attend the clinic.

There is a $30 fee to reserve a spot for the clinic, but those who attend will receive their money back on the day of the event. HomeTowne Auto Repair will be raffling off several prizes and the event will be catered by Grill Gourmet of Dumfries. HomeTown Auto Repair has been designed to provide a clean, coffee shop atmosphere, where a full line of services are offered.

During the event, attendees will learn how to:

How to change a tire

How to check fluids

Battery basics

Braking systems

Engine basics
