It’s the merging of technical skills with people, and if it works, a Prince William-based consultant plans to grow in 2014.
Peggy Kimmey is the sole employee of Kimmey Training and Consulting, which works with small business owners and their sales staff to help them learn how to be more efficient communicators. It’s something she’s done professionally since 2005 after leaving a job as a computer programmer.
Over the last four years, Kimmey said she has placed more focus on her business and is ready to expand into helping larger companies develop new managers, as well as grow a positive corporate culture in the office.
“Maybe a new manager who is trying to figure out what leadership skills are needed to lead rather than boss, how to inspire their team, how to connect, and helping them grow through their leadership levels,” said Kimmey.
Working in groups and communicating with each other – things we were all taught in elementary school and that some of us have forgotten – is what Kimmey helps her clients regain. Her customers have come ot her through various workshops she’s held over the years, and she’s helped them learn about everything from connecting with their employees to the importance of body language.
She’s also stayed connected with local Toastmasters groups that helps people get over the fear of public speaking.
Over the next 12 months, she wants to expand her consulting business by partnering with a large corporation and working with their managers. Kimmey also says she wants to hire new staff, and eventually expand into the neighboring Fauquier County.
