The 20-year-old dream of a memorial to honor Virginia’s public safety workers is closer to become reality after a groundbreaking ceremony Friday in Richmond.
The memorial will be placed between the Capitol and the General Assembly buildings in Richmond and should be completed by the end of the year.
Retired Prince William County Firefighter Hadden Culp is President of the Virginia Public Safety Foundation, the group that has pushed for the memorial’s construction since 1993.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday was Chaplain Ron Thayer of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, who joined Sheriff Charles Jett at the ceremony. In 2012, Jett donated $20,000 in drug monies seized by his department to the memorial fund.
