MANASSAS, Va. – You can order SHARE food packages for Thanksgiving now through Nov. 11 at the House of Mercy. The nonprofit humanitarian organization’s November SHARE menu includes a selection of quality holiday foods at about half the price families would pay in the grocery store, according to House of Mercy Assistant Director Ann Cimini.
“Our November menu is a low-cost option for families who want to put a nutritious feast on their table at Thanksgiving, but not spend a fortune,” Cimini said.
House of Mercy offers a different menu each month through the nonprofit SHARE (Self Help And Resource Exchange) food network, which the organization joined this year to make nutritious food available at low cost to local families, she said. Anyone can order.
SHARE orders for November must be picked up on Saturday, Nov. 23, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the House of Mercy, located at 8170 Flannery Court in Manassas.
The House of Mercy receives no profit from the sales, Cimini said.
The November menu includes three packages: “Best Value,” “Thanksgiving Dinner” and “Value plus a Turkey.”
“Thanksgiving Dinner,” for $30, feeds six people and consists of a 10- to 14-pound grain-fed, antibiotic-free turkey, a fully baked pie and four oven-ready sides, including a sweet potato casserole, green beans, corn and mashed potatoes.
“Best Value,” $20, feeds three to four people and includes a whole roasting chicken, Pollock fillets, ground turkey, stuffing mix, elbow macaroni, a fully baked frozen pie and fresh sweet potatoes, white potatoes, onions, celery and apples. “Value plus a Turkey,” $39, consists of more than 31 pounds of food, including everything in “Best Value” plus a 10- to 14-pound grain-fed turkey.
A $2 fuel surcharge is added to the price of each package to cover transportation costs.
The agency accepts credit and debit card payments by phone. All other methods of payment must be made in person at the House of Mercy, which accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover, cash, food stamps, EBT and money orders. No checks are accepted.
