NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — First there was WaWa, and now Sheetz has an interest in expanding in North Stafford.
The Altoona, Pa. – based gas station and convince store chain with locations in Dale City and Haymarket wants to build a new store at the intersection of Va. 610 and Furnace Road, near a constellation of federal contracting offices along Tech Parkway.
Stafford County will review the plans for the new gas station this week. A nearly $11,000 application fee has been filed with the county as the company, represented by the Law Offices of Leming and Healy in Stafford, as the company seeks a conditional use permit to build a gas station on 2.3 acres of the nearly 22 acres of land on which the has station would sit.
The Sheetz would have seven gas pumps, 14 fuel dispensers, and a 6,600 square foot convince store. The land is zoned “suburban” and is cleared for more office development, according to the application.
A popular destination, the new gas station is expected to generate 6,340 average daily vehicle trips – 240 per hour in the morning and to 286 per hour in the afternoon, according to documents filed with the county.
In addition to fuel, Sheetz has built a business on providing made to order food that includes hamburgers, submarine sandwiches, and pizza. The company currently operates 437 in Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina.\
WaWa, the closest competitor to Sheetz, operates many locations in the area including two on Va. 610 in North Stafford.
