Missing Boater a Veteran NOVEC Employee, Search Continues

NOKESVILLE, Va. — The search continues for a missing boater in Nokesville today.

Joseph Franklin Emberton, 56, went missing Monday night. His boat was found in the Engh Pond just off Aden Road and was towed to shore by emergency crews.

Police divers, after spending all day Tuesday searching for Emberton, are back at pond today resuming their search, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

Emberton is a veteran employee at the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC). He is known by many in the Manassas community as an avid fisherman, and his friends are hopeful for his return.

“We’re hoping and praying he is found alive and well, but I don’t know any details,” said NOVEC spokeswoman Priscilla Knight in an email.

Not only an apparent respected employee of NOVEC, Emberton is also liked by the utility’s customers. In May 2007 a customer thank you letter was printed in a NOVEC newsletter.

“On Feb. 5, I called to report a street light outage on Crescent Hills Drive. The call was made at 8 a.m. and to my surprise the street light was restored to power by 3:30 p.m. on the same day. Many thanks for a job well done in such a rapid response timeframe,” the letter stated.

Police on Tuesday used several boats, divers, and a police helicopter to search for Emberton in the area where his boat was found
