GAINESVILLE, Va. — A man is dead this morning after a townhouse fire in Gainesville.

The blaze broke out about 5 a.m. on Tackhouse Loop just off Vint Hill Road, near the intersection of Rollins Ford Road.

When fire crews arrived, they learned “several” people were trapped inside the house and needed to be rescued and a second alarm was sounded, said Prince William fire and rescue Battalion Chief Curt Brodie.

One unidentified victim was pulled from the burning house with serious injuries, was taken to a hospital and later died. The cause of death has not been released.

The fire was extinguished quickly, and now investigators are on the scene assessing what may have caused the blaze. That, as well as as a final damage estimate, are not yet known.

Police are offering limited access to Tackhouse Loop this morning as the investigation into the house fire continues.
