Community Members to be Honored at Hylton Performing Arts Center

MANASSAS, Va. – Several members of the community including business owners, school teachers, heads of non-profit organizations, and youth, will be recognized on a charity dinner on Friday.

The 24th Annual Prince William / Manassas Boys and Girls Steak ‘N Stake Dinner will be held at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas starting at 6 p.m. Friday. The black tie event is the largest fundraiser for an organization that prides itself on providing quality childcare and activities for at-risk youth for a $30 annual membership.

This year the Clubs will recognize three unique organizations for the assistance they bring to the community: Lockheed Martin, Leadership Prince William, and Walgreens Pharmacy.

In addition to the three event honorees, several other awards will be presented prior to the start of the event at the Stanley Martin Homes Steak ‘N Stake Pre Show at the Lovey Hammel Lounge from 5 to 6pm.

Wellburn Management, the Prince William County-based firm that operates several McDonald’s restaurants, will be recognized with the Annual Partnership Award. The organization was integral to adding a new science and technology classroom that opened this year at the Hylton Boys and Girls Club in Dale City.

This year’s Presidents Award will go to ST Billingsley, of Steve’s Auto Repair in Woodbridge, who donated repair services to keep Club buses on the roads transporting area children to and from the Clubs.

The Betty Covington Educators Award will be handed to Lydia Stewart, a teacher at Osbourn Park High School in Manassas.

The Phi Omicron Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta sorority is set to be honored with the Friend of Youth Award, and area cable TV and internet provider Comcast will receive the Clubs’ Community Outreach Award.

The Garden Club of Manassas will receive the Helping Hands Award, which is a special award given by the Clubs’ this year. The Hylton Foundation will receive the IMPACT Award for their “generous” work to help replace the hardwood floor in the gymnasium at the Hylton Club.

This year’s Volunteer Service Award will go to Theressa Brenner of the Manassas Club, Derrick Lee from the Hylton Club, and Crossroads Church which has donated time and effort at the General Heiser Club in Dumfries.

This year’s youths to be honored include Joe Frempong, of the Hylton Club, Kia Johnson, of the General Heiser Club, and Ajia Drake of the Manassas Club.

“In this busy world, we never have the time to properly thank people for their work, and the stakeholders of the Boys and Girls will have their moment June 7 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center,” said Boys and Girls Club Regional Director Glenn Vickers. “We believe that not only should we recognize our kids and our staff, our stakeholders – who really are professional volunteers – need to be celebrated, because the best way to continue to work in the community is to elevate those who do it.”

Potomac Local News is a sponsor of the Boys and Girls Club Steak ‘N Stake Dinner. Information about tickets, and about the event can be found on our website.

“The additional event sponsors US Foods, Potomac Shores, Novant Health, Compton & Duling, Kitchen Gourmet, Shawn Smokehouse BBQ, and Woodbridge Kiwanis Club make up one piece of the many stakeholders that make our clubs so special in the greater prince William county area. We have made a positive impact in every town and county in our footprint, events like this help determine how big that impact can be in each municipality throughout the year,” added Vickers.
