Stafford ‘Stuffs the Bus’ with School Supplies

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — Not every student begins the school year with the school supplies they need to make the grade. Together we can help make a greater difference in the lives of our students. Stafford County Public Schools and Apple Federal Credit Union coordinate a school supply drive every summer to help students in need get ready for the upcoming school year.

The school system partners with Stafford County Social Services so the backpacks and school supplies are received by specific individuals identified as having financial need. All school supplies collected will be distributed to Stafford County students in need at the beginning of the school year.

This is the fifth year for the Stuff the Bus campaign and every year the number of students served increase. All 30 schools and the Head Start program are serviced. Last year 248 elementary, 133 middle and 94 high school students received backpacks stuffed with school supplies. Additional donated school supplies were distributed throughout the school system.

Items that are needed the most are pencils, loose leaf paper, glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils, markets, composition books, dry erase markers, folders and notebooks. Supplies will be collected through August 19th and the backpack stuffing event which includes United States Marines from the Marine Corps Base Quantico will be held on Thursday, August 23rd.
