High School Play Focuses on Bullying

Mountain View High School in Stafford.

Stafford, Va. — Mountain View High School in Stafford is presenting an original one act play “Blow By Blow: A Modern Morality Play” on Friday Feb. 24th at 7 p.m. It will be followed by an improvisation show by the MVHS Thunder- Acts. Tickets are $5. Half of all proceeds will go to an anti-bullying/ suicide prevention organization.

“Blow by Blow: An Original Morality Play” was conceived and devised and written by the director and cast. It deals with bullying.

The story concerns the main character, Stanley, a victim of bullying. As the play begins, he is trying to remember what has happened to him. Gradually his story unfolds as he flashes back to moments in time….we see the seeds of bullying begin in elementary school and follow him to high school. As his memory becomes clearer so too do the events of his life, culminating in an embarrassing incident that leads to him being cyber-bullied. At the end of the play he remembers what has happened to him, with shocking results.

The play is stylistically edgy and creative. The audience is constantly surprised, especially by the end.

This is exactly the kind of thing schools should be doing. The visceral effect it has on students and adults is real and immediate. This play is not suitable for students under 10 years of age.
