Wine Wedding Reception Used to Promote Stafford

Stafford, Va. — If you grow up around wine it’s fitting that your wedding reception is held at a winery.

That was the case for Cindy Causey’s 25-year-old daughter Chelsea, and her 28-year-old husband Nick. Both were married last fall and had their reception at Potomac Point Winery in Stafford County. Cindy and her husband, Skip, own the winery.

Photos of their wedding were featured in a popular area wedding blog, and Stafford County tourism officials recently called attention to the blog post – stating the county’s mid-point location between Washington and Richmond make it an ideal place to visit.

Cindy Causey agrees.

“Stafford gets overlooked a lot, but this place is rich in history, we have two wineries, and the area is really becoming a destination spot,” said Causey.

Hartwood Winery, also in Stafford, is one of the destinations in Stafford that make it appealing to visitors.

“So much of Stafford County’s past played a significant role in America’s history,” said Stafford Board of Supervisors Chairman Susan Stimpson in a press release. “We have a wonderful story to tell our residents and visitors, so publicity such as this will help pique people’s interest and foster pride in our community.”

Though Chelsea and Nick both live in Reston, they were married in Stafford County. Their ceremony was at Aquia Episcopal Church in North Stafford, and their ceremony was a private party held at Potomac Point later that day.

“[Chelsea] grew up with us talking dreams, because we would always talk about wanting to open our own winery, so it was the perfect place to hold the reception,” said Causey.

Potomac Point Winery is located at 275 Decatur Road.
