Woodbridge, Va. — The Food Lion grocery store brand will be roaring back into the Potomac Communities.

Several Food Lion stores that were converted to Bloom and Bottom Dollar grocery stores in the middle of the past decade, but it appears the new brands never fully caught on with shoppers in the area, according to information released by Food Lion parent company Delhaize America.

All of the Bloom and Bottom Dollar stores will be converted to their former Food Lion brand, and the company will retire the Boom brand altogether, Delhaize America reported. The Bottom Dollar name will live on at stores in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh markets where it has done well.

“This portfolio optimization will enable us to focus our efforts on the most promising Food Lion stores and markets and to accelerate our profitable growth,” the company reported.

Nationwide, 42 Bloom stores and 22 Bottom Dollar stores will be converted, while 113 under preforming stores will be closed, according to Delhaize America.

The conversions are taking place in Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia. The company said it plans to open “hundreds” of new Bottom Dollar foods stores in Pennsylvania in the next five years.
