Woodbridge, Va. — Those who park illegally at the Horner Road Commuter Lot will be the new focus of state police next week.
Starting tomorrow, Virginia State Police will erect electronic message signs at the Woodbridge commuter lot at Prince William Parkway and Interstate 95 – which is the largest commuter lot in the state, accommodating more than 2,000 vehicles – warning drivers of an upcoming enforcement beginning Monday, Oct. 17.

During that week, vehicles parked anywhere other than designated parking spaces or where parking is prohibited will receive a ticket.
“Our primary concern is the safety of the pedestrians walking through this lot, which is why we are conducting this special enforcement effort,” said Virginia State Police First Sgt. Michael J. Alessi in a press release. “We have initiated previous enforcement campaigns in the past in other areas in order for drivers’ to comply with the parking regulations that are posted in the lot.”
Problematic as of late have been drivers who park along one of two travel lanes used by buses and cars at the parking lot. Officials said those lanes need to remain clear of cars in the event emergency vehicles need to use them.
In addition to large signs, troopers will place fliers on cars this week warning drivers they are illegally parked.
This latest commuter parking lot enforcement comes after a similar effort in North Stafford earlier this year, where police issued citations to more than 20 drivers who parked illegally.
