Robbery, Eluding Suspects Caught

Update 5:45 p.m.
The occupants of a car that fled from police this morning following a bank robbery have been identified.

Police say a man walked into a Union Bank and Trust on Morris Road in Spotsylvania County at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The man handed the teller a note and asked for money, which the teller provided to the man.

With cash in hand, the robber runs from the bank and enters a silver car with Maryland tags, and along with another occupant in the car speeds away, said Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Davis.

At 10:48 a.m., a Stafford sheriff’s deputy was sitting in the median of Interstate 95 and witnessed a silver car that matched the description of the one used in the robbery, and then pulled up behind it.

“Before she could activate her emergency equipment, the car sped up ahead of her,” said Davis.

The car then turned onto a crossover in the median of the highway and crashed.

Two males jumped out of the car and took off –– one man running to the northbound side and the other running to the southbound side of the highway, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Kennedy.

Stafford authorities set up a search perimeter for the two men using K-9 dogs, and had help from several police agencies including a police helicopter form Fairfax County.

At 1:45 p.m., one of the men was found along Potomac Creek on just east of the highway.

Fifteen minutes later, the second man was found west of the highway on Centreport Parkway.

Ronald David Green, 30, of no fixed address, and 46-year-old Gregory Everett Sr., also of no fixed address, have pending charges against them in Stafford County to include eluding police, said Kennedy.

Spotsylvania officials have also filed bank robbery charges.

There were no reports of injuries in the pursuit of the two men.

Update 2:45 p.m.
Two males are in custody after they fled police during a traffic stop on Interstate 95, police say.

The suspects have yet to be identified, and charges are pending.

Police stopped a car matching the description of a car used in a bank robbery this morning in Spotsylvania County, on I-95 at Centreport Parkway, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

That’s where both men were arrested by Stafford sheriff’s deputies about two hours later.

The Spotsylvania sheriff’s department has not returned a call for information about the robbery.

Stafford, Va. ––
Two bank robbery suspects were stopped on Interstate 95 this morning, but quickly fled from their car and eluded police.

The car was stopped on the northbound side of the highway about 11:30 a.m., at Centreport Parkway near the Stafford Regional Airport, because the vehicle matched the description of one that was used in a bank robbery earlier this morning in Spotsylvania County, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Much of I-95 south between Woodbridge and Stafford resembled a parking lot at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Stafford officials said traffic on U.S. 1 is also delayed.

We’ll have more on this as it becomes available.
