Triangle, Va. –– Police say one man was driving the wrong way on Interstate 95 Saturday night when he slammed into 1996 Volvo head on, injuring three occupants.

Virginia State Police were called to mile post 150 near at Quantico at 9:47 p.m. for a report of a crash.  They found the driver, 48-year-old Alison Conway of Maryland, and passengers; 78-year-old Geraldine Orrell and 19-year-old Amanda Conway.

Orrell is Alison Conway’s mother, and was taken to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.

Both Alison and Amanda –– mother and daughter –– were also taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

The driver that collided with the car was driving a 1993 Ford Explorer. Police found it at the crash scene, but say the driver fled on foot.

He was later found two miles north of the crash scene, walking along I-95 near on Dumfries Road (Va. 234). He was arrested without incident.

Sergio A. Alvarenga-Vasquez, 34, of Fredericksburg, is charged with drunk in public, felony hit and run and with reckless driving, driving without a valid license, failing to obtain insurance and failure to wear a seatbelt, said Geller.

The victims were all wearing seatbelts, added Geller.

Alvarenga-Vasquez is being held in a Manassas jail.

The crash caused northbound delays and forced the closure of that portion of the highway for at least two hours.
