1 Killed, 2 Injured in Crash

One person was killed and two others injured in a crash Monday afternoon on U.S. 1 in North Stafford. (Submitted)

Update 1:30 p.m. Tuesday
Police have identified the man who was killed last night in a crash on Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. 1) as 57-year-old Rex Allen Thiebolt.

Crash investigators say Thiebolt was traveling north on U.S. 1 when he veered off the road into the right shoulder, hit a guardrail, overcorrected and drove into the southbound lanes of the four-lane highway.

Thiebolt’s 1996 Ford Areostar Van stuck a 2011 Ford Expedition that was driven by a 37-year-old Stafford woman. The woman’s infant was also inside the SUV at the time of the crash, but both were not seriously injured, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler.

Thiebolt, of Stafford County, was extracted from the vehicle and taken to Mary Washington Hospital where he later died.

North Stafford, Va. ––
One person is dead and two others injured after a crash Monday afternoon.

Fire and rescue crews were called to 3650 Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. 1) at 5:40 p.m. after two vehicles collided head-on, near the Stafford Diner and Potomac Hills Fire and Rescue Station.

One person was trapped inside one of the vehicles, and the damage to both cars was so extensive it took longer than normal to pull the patient from the vehicle, said Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle.

Once pulled from the wreckage, the patient was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition where they later died.

Two other patients that suffered injuries that appeared to be non-life threatening were also taken to a hospital, said Doyle.

Officials have yet to release the name or age of the victim, or have they said what types of cars were involved in the crash.

We’re told Virginia State Police are investigating the crash and we hope to bring you more information on this as soon as we get it.
