95 lanes closing Tuesday for highway work

Lorton, Va. –– Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation will be close the ramp from Interstate 95 south to U.S. 1 south (Exit 161) from 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 to 5 a.m. Feb. 2 for steel beam erection as part of the I-95 Widening Project. The ramp from High Occupancy Vehicle lanes to U.S. 1 south will also close at 10 p.m.

Drivers on I-95 south headed to U.S. 1 south will be detoured to Prince William Parkway exit (Exit 158B), and should then follow signs back to I-95 north to Route 123 east (Exit 160) to U.S. 1.

Motorists on the HOV lanes headed to U.S. 1 south must take the exit to Va. 123, then turn left at the traffic signal on Va. 123 to go onto U.S. 1.

The HOV lanes will remain open for drivers headed in the southbound direction until 3 a.m., and will not close at it normal time of midnight.

The right lane on I-95 north will also close as part of the construction. By 5 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, the ramp to U.S. 1 and the northbound travel lane will be open.

The six-mile long I-95 Widening Project adds a fourth lane north and south between Fairfax County Parkway (Va. 7100) and Woodbridge (Va. 123). The project is scheduled to be complete in fall. The three-year project opened a portion of the I-95 north lane in December 2009, and a section of the new southbound lane in October 2010.
