Man indicted in antique store homicide

Julian Lee “Buzz” Burke is charged in the shooting death of a store owner.

Stafford County, Va. – One man faces murder charges in the death of a Stafford County antique store owner.

Stafford County detectives traveled to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center in Winchester on Tuesday night and served an arrest warrant for 63-year-old Julian Lee “Buzz” Burke, who was already in jail on a first-degree murder charge from an incident that took place in Fauquier County in November 2009, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

The Fredericksburg man is now charged in Stafford County with two counts of capital murder – one which charges he killed more than one person in a three-year period and the other charging he killed someone during a robbery, said Kennedy.

The victim in this case, 66-year-old James Le Rose, owned the Second Time Around antique store on U.S. 17 in south Stafford. On October 15, investigators say Burke shot La Rose sometime after 6 a.m.

The victim’s body was later found by a family member who called 911.

Stafford County Sheriff Charles E. Jett commented on the case.

“This has been a terribly difficult time for the family of Mr. LaRose,” said Jett.  “Hopefully this indictment will start to ease the pain and uncertainty that this family has had to endure these last 9 months.”

Burke was convicted of obtaining money by false pretenses in Stafford County in June 2009 and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.

Burke is scheduled to stand trial Sept. 24 on the first-degree murder in Fauquier County, according to court records.

He was indicted on that murder charge in January, court records state.
