STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – It appears one man was frustrated with jail officials and he took it out on their cars.

A 27-year-old man who had just been released from jail sometime after 9 a.m. Friday walked out of the detention center and then jumped on top of jail officials’ cars, authorities say.

A Stafford sheriff’s deputy was called to the Rappahannock Regional Jail at 9:22 a.m., after witnesses saw the man jump on at least three Ford Crown Victoria cruisers that were parked outside the jail.

An investigation revealed the man had been arrested earlier in neighboring Fredericksburg on drunk in public charges and was brought to the jail.

When he was released, the man said jail officials decided to keep some of his items police took from him during his arrest , said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

It’s not known what those objects were, but not getting them back apparently enraged the man. When outside, he punched a street sign and injured his his hand, and then jumped onto the cars and damaged their hoods, said Kennedy.  Those hoods will be replaced.

When a deputy arrived, he found the man walking south on U.S. 1, away from the jail.

The man fit the description witnesses gave to authorities of a man who was using the Ford automobiles as trampolines, and he was arrested, said Kennedy.

James Michael Holston, of Bowling Green, is charged with destruction of property for  damage done to the sign, and with felony destruction of property for damage done to the cars, said Kennedy.

The latest charges are in addition to those he received in Fredericksburg.

He was placed back in jail, this time without bond.
